It seems there's not a lot of interest for my SX racing sail on ebay (see former posts). I'm thinking if no bids this weekend I might just pull the auction and fix up the sail for myself. Aside from the delaminated mylar, the other issues with the sail can be easily fixed by my sail shop. Rather then cut 8" from the foot I would take it from the top and sqaure it off. But the delaminated mylar is the only unkown - anyone know of a method to fix this? How much of an issue would it be to just sail it that way? What about just removing the mylar completely? Thanks for any input. ~John |

There is no method for repairing the delaminated mylar. You can sail it until it comes completely apart - it just looks really ugly. Eventually, the mylar will peel off in big pieces. Do not pull the mylar off - it provides most of the strength of the sail. The dacron taffeta is there only to prevent the mylar from tearing. |

airflow around a delaminated sail of the type sux. You will have either big bubbles or big pieces torn off and eventually you'll be lured into doing what Matt Bounds says you should not do. That's what I've done with my jib but I know it will not last long, it becomes a very thin weak dacron sail. |
