What is the issue?

Both the mast base and the dolphin striker systems are pretty straightforward. If you have a specific question, I'm sure it can be answered here.

Mast mount has space between itself and crossbar, approx. 1/8 - 3/16 of an inch, still seems to be tight, looks like rivets have stretched possibly? does the dolphin striker need to be loosened to repair? Not sure how to loosen. Apparantly mount is older model of mount with only two rivet holes, but would like to reuse if possible.

Use an automotive scissor jack against the post and push the striker rod down to relieve the pressure on the casting and set it back down on the crossbar. Drill the rivets and replace. Add two more on the sides.

Adjustment of the rod is done at the ends... under cover plates in the castings are the tension nuts.

Is the rod not threaded into the mast support?

Yes... on your vintage. Pull down flush on the deck using the jack. Don't pull further.

Very similar to the technique used on the 16: http://www.hobiecat.com/support/pdfs/h16-step-replace.pdf

Hey if you're looking for a group of people with Hobie 18 experience I suggest you check out fleet 2. Over the weekend of the 4th we're up at Lake Davis. Beautiful spot with out power boats! Lots of experienced H18 sailors in our group.

Take care,

Adam
