I purchased some new Hobie diamond wire assemblies and just finished initially tensioning two of them by hand...when I noticed that the one really didn't look quite right...checked the others (4 in total) and all seem to have a varying amount of "kink" in the press fitting. These have never been sailed, brand new. Are these safe to use or should they be returned / exchanged at the dealer? My used ones (old) are near to perfectly straight...just really old. I removed a turnbuckle on the one just to verify that it wasn't some misalignment in the threads or some other strange thing...looks to be in the fitting. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Seems the press can cause that angle. I have no concern about their strength as is. |

I have the same issue on my "new to me H18". Both of the lower ones have a slight bend. According to the previous owner they have many hours on them and I have recently tightened them with no issue. I just try to align the bend so that the diamond wire is as vertical as it can be. I see you are from Shepherd, MI. I lived in Mt P for 5 years and my wife is from MtP. Where do you sail in Central MI? |

The diamond wires on my mast have a similar bend, they have been on there for many years. sm |
