Current production Hobie 18 sails are in the 16XXX range, so that number would probably not correspond to an 18 sail, however sometimes special numbering sequences were used for sails used for national championships. The easiest way to tell if your sail is for a 16 or an 18 would be to reference the number next to the flying H. The next check would be to count the number of batten pockets. A Hobie 16 mainsail has 8 batten pockets, a Hobie 18 mainsail has 10 batten pockets. A Hobie 16 mainsail also has a bolt rope along the foot to attach the tight-footed boom, the 18 mainsail does not.
