Post subject: | Inspection Ports |
Looking to add a inspection port to each hull behind the rear crossbar. The question is WHAT SIZE? This port would be to install anchor plates to the rear crossbeam. If anyone has added these ports please let me know what you did & what size will fit. Thanks |

5" is the most common diameter, four and six are also available. When installing make sure the cut edge gets a good coat of epoxy or polyester resin to prevent water from seeping into the foam and glass. A 1/2 to 3/4" thick piece of foam works well to seal the ring affixed to the hull, the remaining center piece of foam may be glued to the bottom of the "cap" so it will float. Search on thebeachcats for complete installation details. |

I thinnk John is talking about using closed cell foam. It floats much better than the open cell variety. |

I am considering doing the same. Please share your experiences with me, either on this Forum, or at [email protected] I am particularly interested in understanding how to mount the anchor plates and placement of the fibreglass reinforcing strips. My new (used) SX 18 wings arrive March 5, all the way from California, and like you, want to make sure that the hull-deck joint is solid and strong. Still snowing up here, and I can't wait for May. Good winds |
