I just bought an older h18 yesterday and the guy can't find the dagger boards. I looked on the hobie site and they are quite expensive. Any suggestions on where to find cheaper used ones? Anyone have any for sale? Thanks Mac |

Yep, They were really nice too. $50 each on Ebay. The guy hasn't paid yet, so we'll see. I've got 2 more, but they need a little love before they go up on the block. |

Speaking of dagger boards - what's the word on using them to stand on when righting the boat? |

If you are barefoot, be very careful as you do not want to get your toes caught in between dagger board and hull. Can happen easily as dagger board is wet and can slide in and out easily. I usually have my toes on hull and heels on dagger board, thereby not putting excess pressure on dagger board. Have had to stand on edge of dagger board to assist in minimal winds with no problems, be careful that dagger board does not go back into hull, it can happen very quickly and can push dagger board out the hull. I always tie the dagger boards to the boat - the bungee cord is not strong enough to hold it. |

Do the dagger boards float or sink? I have the bungie hooked with a plastic hook that could come undone. |

I have stood on the daggers many times. We have even flipped the boat and used the upper dagger as a diving board. And we have tried to ride one pulled behind the boat like they did in the old 18 jumping movie where they skied behind an 18. They do float and if they are in good shape I don't see how you will hurt them. If they are water logged from unrepaired cracked edges then stay off them. |
