I was trying to replace my halyard line today and ran into some problems. I couldn't get the rope through the pulley on the top of the mast. The pulley on the bottom comes off, but the top one is riveted. (I have the mast down). How are you supposed to get the new line through the pulley? |

And what is the correct line size? |

Don't have an 18, so don't know the size. But I replaced mine on my 16 recently, I fed the halyard on the sheave, they turned the sheave as I was feeding the halyard and it came to the other side. The smart way (which I did not do) would have been to tie a string to the old one when pulling it out and use the string to fish the new one in. |

Tried the string deal but couldn't get both through the pulley. I think the 16 & 18 halyard set ups are different animals? Mine runs inside the mast. |

Try feeding a piece of Fishing line as a starter then run the line through and around the halyard. The smaller diameter the halyard the better off you are. As long as it can pull hard enough to lift the sail off the hook and you can grip it well. |

I left my old halyard in, bent a paperclip to poke through the old halyard. Then put the other end of the paperclip through the new halyard. Pulled the old halyard and the new one went with it.. Just need to make sure the halyard lines don't overlap as there isn't enough clearance to get two lines through the rollers. I ended up putting two paperclips to make sure it didn't fall apart midstream. |

yup, same concept here, but I used some wraps of electrical tape, w/the ropes butted end to end... |
