I need to replace my mast step and dolphin striker assembly. The rivets in the mast step were loose when I bought the boat and the through hole for the dolphin striker is oversize. I plan on replacing the mast step with the newer style that uses four rivets to secure it to the crossbar. My question is should I make some sort of sleeve for the dolphin striker so it fits tightly in the cross bar hole? Or will the four rivets be strong enough to take the side loads on the mast step? From factory how tight does the dolphin striker post fit through the crossbar hole.

Here is a pic of the badly worn crossbar.

Should be no problem. When you place the new step casting which uses 4 rivet locations and a much larger footprint... That will hold the post in position.

Phew... that's the answer I was hoping for.

Is there a measurement I can use to make sure I have the mast step in the correct location?

Centered. The casting will align in properly.
