talking about the new style... do you need access to inside the hull? is it a easy swap from the old style? are they self tapping screws that come with it..? how do they install? thanks. |

The holes left by the old gudgeons do not all line up with the new gudgeons, so you'll need to drill and tap new holes & fill the unused ones. It's not hard, but you may not have all the tools to do it. RobPatt wrote: are they self tapping screws that come with it..? I don't think they come with any screws. The ones you want are the 12-24 locking machine screws that Hobie sells. RobPatt wrote: how do they install? Remove the old gudgeons and temporarily install the new with machine screws at the holes that line up. Use the gudgeon as a template to drill the holes that don't line up. Remove the gudgeon, fill the old holes you won't use and tap the new ones. Install the gudgeon with all 8 machine screws and silicone seal. Done. |

Do I remember something about part of the new style gudgeon has to be ground down? Other than that, sounds simple. |

Not the gudgeon, but the lower rudder casting - at extreme steering angles, the lower part of the casting will interfere with the machine screw heads. A high-speed cutter in a Dremel tool will take care of it quickly. |
