well, this past sailing season I lost the pin to the Jib head shackle. The one captured by the wire luff line. none of the spares I have fit the shackle properly. knowing the exact size will help me find a replacement, as the closest Hobie dealer is 40 miles away.

any help please?

The shackle (11220000) that is used on the jib halyard for the H18 is 3/16".

We do not carry replacement pins as shackles vary... hard to match length and length of threaded portion. You may have to replace the shackle.

I appreciate that Matt. I examined removing the shackle's bail without cutting open the swedged loop that retains it. It is not an easy task but doable without dmage I think.

Drill out the threads ... and use a "Quick Pin" or a "clevis pin".

Thats what I did when I dropped my small shackle pin in the sand by my feet ... I watched it ...plop .... and I still couldn't find it in the New Jersey beach sand ....

I can find a "Quick Pin" in the sand (and have done so many times ...) and I carry 3/16" clevis pins also as a back-up ...

Now that was years ago ... and I'm still using that same halyard. (Since the jib halyard isn't "standing rigging", I don't replace it until I find broken wires/strands. Note: I installed SS Washers on the outside of the "Jib Halyard Pulley" on the clevis pin/axial to squeeze the housing against the shive so that the wire halyard has no room to jump off the shive and jam between the housing & shive ... or you could install a bolt w/ a nyloc nut and tighten it down to provide the same effect ....)

I have an extra one, I would be happy to mail it to you.
Ill sell it for 5 bucks plus shipping.
I just tested it on my 84 hobie 18, it is the right size.

Screw it you can have it for free if you pay shipping. I think a new one is only worth 5 bucks anyway. But all you get is the pin not the wire or shackle. I have a Hobie dealer real close who is very helpful. So if I ever loose the 2 I am keeping I can get one a lot easier than you.
