Anyone able to fly a spin other than the SX spin with wings on? My block system for the spin is on the deck so getting the spin flat is out of the question with wings on. I could fly it, but not hot. Just curious if anyone has found a work around for this. |

Will have to wait a month for warmer weather. I had my blocks on the shroud area and found they were too far back. I plan to move the blocks to the end of the front crossbar with the magnum wings on. I will have to see how the sheets run and I'll let you know if that works. |

A second slide on the jib track works for my kite system. Kite block is at the front of the track. |

On my 21SE,I have the spinnaker blocks mounted on the outside aft part of my wings.This works well for me.The original instructions placed those blocks on the aft wing leg and it really seemed like a poor place.I would like to see how other sailors do it.I don't use a spinnaker pole but would like to get one. And all the lines at that one point would be a nightmare IMO. I have no jib tracks since my boats jib is self-tacking. My blocks are 6" forward of the sidestay in the deck. I have BIG washers inside to spread the load. What type of spin are you running from the jib track? F18? I really can't see my spin flying properly sheeted from that angle. |

I have my spin blocks on a second car in the jib track also. From there the spin sheet goes up to a block on the front X-bar and back where i actually sheet from. |

What style spin are you running? Do you run it hot or just downwind cruising? Have you compared your speed to F18s under spin? I see the simplicity of running it from the jib track but it seems that the slot between the main and spin would be too tight. Certainly the spin stalls the back of your jib running that tight to it. I race F18s with my boat and need all the speed it can create. I like the idea of running from the jib track but question the sail shape created and speed offered by that configuration. |

Actually with the blocks on the jib track it allows me to run hotter. I tried the blocks on the side stays and could not get the angle I wanted. With them in the jib track it reaches like a mother. Jim. |

ncmbm, since your Frankenboat races on handicap, what about adding a second track on the outboard side of the hull, close to the hull-deck interface? I'm real curious about block placement as I plan on having a spin rigged this year. |

I feel my spin is correct. The H18 is narrower than a tiger and a tiger has blocks at the sidestays. If I ran the spin from a jib track it would not be affected by the wings. Running the spin from the deck or sidestays and wings get in the way. Alot of this would depend on the spin and what it was made for. Since only the SX spin was made for the H18 all others are adaptations. Are the boats running from the jib track running F18 spins or Jeremys custom cut or something else? I feel a true F18 spin cannot be run in that manner. I can pull the spin all the way to the block now, any closer and I couldn't flatten it. Maybe I could hang a block on the wing and run from it to the deck. Maybe I just can't use the wings with this spin. |

I am running a Whirlwind spin, Chip worked for hobie building sails in the old days. He builds an excellent product for a good price and fast service. I am using a 12' carbon pole. The spin blocks are attached to a murrays travel car #12-3030. I cut it in half and use half on each side in front of the jib travel car. I too tried the shroud placement but wings and daggers got in the way. After coming thru the blocks on the jib travel track the spin sheet turns forward to the front x-bar where I have a second block which turns the sheet back to the center of the tramp and that is where I sheet from. Love to post some pics but I've tried and tried and can't figure out how too. Jim. |

My spins are whirlwind as well, wish Chip didn't take the new job. Mine are F18 specific cuts, he also makes a spin on Jeremys specs for the 18. After some thought, moving to the jib track is only 8" further inside. That shouldn't have a great effect on spin shape, its at least worth the effort to try. I would like to cruise the coast this year and being able to run the spin really allows me to cover greater distances in less time. Drive it up the coast and glide back down. Thanks for the input! |

The only time the spinnaker flies is when cruising with the family on holidays. Having one of the extended family hold the tiller (30+ nieces and nephews so there are normally plenty of volunteers to go sailing... not so many when rigging though) I can launch and retrieve the kite by myself. So far have only used it in less than 10 knots. I do need to hang a second block off the front beam so the sheet has to travel further around the rachet block but then the cleat would have to come off too.
