Hi all, I purchased a 1982 18 and trailer for a song but there are a number of things that need some attention. The mounting hardware is different at each of the 4 mounting locations for the wings. 1) Can someone explain 65071001 please? What is the proper order of the nuts/washers? Also, on this boat, it appears, based on the shape, that part 68190001 (anchor plate) is used in only one of the four locations. In this particular location, the bottom aluminum "lip" in the crossbar is missing material so nothing is able to hold the threaded slug in place. So, a long bolt was put in place and held with a nut on the back of the crossbar. Kind of a mess. 2) Should 68190001 be used on all 4 mount points? I would think so. 3) Where is 91490010 (bracket) used? 4) I wonder if it would be possible to repair the lower lip on the rear crossbar. Has anybody had luck welding the crossbar? Sorry for all the questions. The parts diagram does not provide these details. Thanks for any advice. Dave |

Ok, so I did a lot more reading last night after making the original post. A post from mmiller made me realize that I did not in fact have an "anchor plate" on the starboard rear wing connection but it was a "metal butterfly" that is supposed to keep the wing connection centered over the tramp opening. I will post a picture but I am still assuming a "slug" goes here instead of a long bolt and a drilled through hole in the cross beam. thanks, Dave |

There is a slug for that side. It is longer than any of the others so it spans the tramp slot(where the lower lip is missing). The butterfly gives it something to pull against. Each pin has an allen key hole on one end. You tighten the first nut to the crossbar, add the washer, the wing and the second nut if I'm not mistaken. There is only one butterfly. |

That missing couple inches of "lower lip" is where you insert the rear lacing strip of your trampoline... |

Just called my dealer out of Cincy and Hobie tells him that the longer slug is no longer available. They recommend using the anchor plate in that corner. I didn't want to have to use the anchor plate and do that riveting so I'm going to see if I can find this piece somewhere or have a machine shop make one. Thanks again for the good info. |

I think I used the slug from a 16 sidestay, not sure though. I do not have the riveted on brackets, my wings are magnums. Think the SX wings may have used them on the rear. |

Ok, so Bob from Strictly Sail in Cincy found one of the extra long slugs for the starboard rear mount point. However, it appears the internal thread is different than the other three slugs. I can't imagine why this would be the case. The three slugs are all 5/16 - 18 course threads but this extra long slug is something else. Does anybody have any idea? thanks, Dave |

We went to finer threads on newer (short) bars at some point. Finer thread has shallower threads and is stronger in shear. |

Matt, So, are the threaded studs are available with two thread types? The "short" slugs seem to be 5/16 - 18 course. What is the other thread type? thanks, Dave |

I ran into this as well. The older wing attachment kits have the right thread. I had both types so was able to work around. Tap the slug to work with your newer studs. |

If you "re-tap" the slug from a coarse thread to a fine thread, there will be very little material left for thread engagement and it's highly likely that the stud will pull out. sm |

Newer is 5/16-24 UNF We only make the newer style... since 1989. |

Thanks for the info. Is there a compelling reason I should stick with the threaded stud with the internal hex on the end as opposed to something more readily available? This thread is turning into the definitive resource on this hardware ! |

I suppose you could use any bolt... just cleaner with the allen. |
