What knot would you recommend for tieing strong, non-slip "loops" around my four crossbar corners? I need something to clip my righting pole support line to. Thanks! |

while I'm knot a guru, lemme ask: are you using line or webbing? are they permanent or temporary mounts? do you want just one LOOSE loop at each corner or are they tied tight around the corners? for a tight anchored loop: take a line 24"-30" or so and make a fall loop at one end the size of your 'loop' plus the length of a half hitch knot. tie a tight half hitch (both lines) your desired distance up the line to create your small or large standing loop. take the line's other end around the crossbar and tie off tight with a bowline knot. I assume the tramp will keep them from sliding away. the bowline will allow the lines to be removed from the boat, the half hitch will cinch up tight to hold your loop open. |

A fishermans knot (or double fishermans knot depending on line size) make a very secure loop but is not easy to untie. A bowline is also very secure and mush easier to untie. |

Thanks Chris and Chet. I am using high strength line from New England Ropes to make the loops. My intention is/was to tie on four permanent loops around the casting corners (next to the tramp), one for each corner. I would then clip my righting pole support line to them when I need to use the system. Obviously they would be under heavy load. Thanks for the suggestion of an anchored loop and fisherman's. I'm going to give them a try this weekend. Take care! |
