My new mast base did not include the teflon washer, is this a stock hobie part? I have a spare washer I was going to install but the stock retaing screw is to short. With the washer installed the screw tightens down on the mast bearing before it would bottom out... The only reason I want to install the telfon bushing is to eliminate the squeking when sailing in light wind, does the teflon washer help this? |

A Hobie 16 mast chip works well, you just need to drill a hole in it. Be sure to use loctite on the screw when re-installing. sm |

I got a longer bolt for mine after the orig broke and a couple of tiny loc washers and one regular to adjust the height at which the bolts becomes tight. You want the bolt to screw in and and be fully tight and allow the ball to rotate freely and not be to far out so that it hits the mast base. If you tighten it and you cant rotate the ball then get a tiny washer to go withing the ball on top of the bolt hole opening. So when you tighten it is a washers thickness higher, high enough to let the ball rotate. Oh yeah I forgot to say I cant describe worth a darn. Maybe the pics will help. The ball goes on top of the Teflon and then the lock washer then the reg then the bolt. Fully tighten and the ball still spins free and the bolt isn't to high. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
