I am refurbishing a 1980 Hobie 18. Can someone tell me the lenghts of the fore and aft trapeze shock cords, the daggerboard cords, and the cord that keeps the jibsheet blocks upright? Thanks Trader-Bobs |

How to shock cords keep the jib sheets upright? Are you talking about the shock cord that goes from the one side of the FWD crossbar support ROD up 2 feet on the mast then back to the FWD crossbar support rod. Check the photo out, its the red child-like lines. Sorry its hard to makes strait lines. Shock cord there helps the jib blocks from getting caught up on mast. My mast also has a small loop there for it. It looks stock. Or are you talking about something else?

Another way of routing the jib preventer is to clip one end of the bungee to the ring that your dagger board bungees attach to infront of the crossbar, then take the other end, go behind the diamond wires, then inbetween the diamond wires and the mast, around the mast, back through the space between the diamond wires and the mast on the other side, and then to the ring on the other side that the dagger board shock cords attach to. I'm sure that's pretty confusing to describe, but it works. What I like about it is that I don't have to drill or install anything to the mast or hulls. |

I think he's refering to the bungee that is sometimes tied between the fairleads on the jib cleats to keep the jib blocks from flopping around. About 6 or 7 feet of 3/16" bungee should do it. Bungee cord is one of those things that I like to buy about twice as much as I think I need. If you buy too little, you end up kicking yourself, but if you buy too much, you always find somewhere to use it. sm |

You tie one end to the starboard Jib Block Fairlead ..... pass it through the grommet in the tramp near the jibblock ..... pass it under the tramp to the grommet on the other side ... up through that grommet ... tie it off to the port jibblock fairlead .... Quite simple ..... |
