| Post subject: | Weather Helm |
This is a new problem for me: My H-18 M has been sailing well for years and I've checked all the measurements on the rudders, etc. I've got more weather helm when sailing on port than I do on starboard (which I think is ideal; enough to point automatically if something does happen). Before I start playing with the spreaders and dagger rakes, anyone have any ideas? Wyatt |

I'm going to ask a really simple question... Is it really more weather helm on port tack or do you just feel like it is? I usually notice a difference at the beginning of each season after not using my left hand (on starboard tack) all winter long. The only other thing I can think of is your tiller extender connection is not centered. Did you make any changes to this? |

I guess I did...At the beginning of the season I check all the measurements. I thought the rudders were "toed out" a bit, so I gave it one correcting half turn; maybe I shouldn't have. Wyatt |

The rudder rake can change under load. Check the cams to be sure they are locking and holding under load. Perhaps try a bungee around the rudder to hold it down to test. There is a FAQ topic in these forums. Top Topic. There is a subject all about cams and rudder rake. |
