Hey all, just thought I'd share today's sailing adventure! This is in Longmont, CO. Anyway, went sailing with a friend for the wednesday evening races. There wasn't a lot of wind, but it was growing fairly quickly. Went out anyway, and it grew to 30mph plus within a minute of launching, and then the 34 - 40 gust hit, from a wider angle, and flipped the boat (had 2 go pro camera's rolling, we looked ridiculous as we flipped haha). The best part is that the leeward pontoon's hole cover (for hull access) opened up after the capsize and it sank. So a nice afternoon sailing turning into a recovery mission! Still, we saved everything (had to release the mast while turtled), except one of the shrouds is now missing, and the boat looks like it got a seaweed makeover. First time capsizing, and thought I'd share it. Turns out it's not bad! (we managed to pull it up from a turtle, and would have sailed off, had it not sunk). Hope everyone is getting some exciting sailing in!! |

Shroud missing? Is that what you meant by releasing the mast? Did you disconnect the shroud at the bottom (top as turtled)? Near 40 mph gust, good thing more damage was not done. Did you have to tow the boat in? |
