Hi, I'm new in Cats, and I was wondering how you store things in them while you're sailing. I know there are two hull inspection holes, and you can put small staf there. Is there anything availiable, like a box to store bigger things like a duffel bag, an air bottle, etc...? Also,is there a detailed diagram for the correct rigging of the 18'? I already read the assembly manual, but is not 100% clear in some parts. Thank you all

Most anything you put in the hulls will get wet. Even with the cat bags. I have a drybag that attaches to the hiking straps much like a spin bag does. Its ok but gets in the way and can't be used with the spin rig. I also regularly tie a cooler to the boom so I can carry fuel (aka. beer) with me on long sails. In rough seas the cooler broke the rotater arm bolt once, released the diamond wires and I thought the mast would fold before I got back to the beach. Beer was rolling everywhere. We saved most of the beer and had quite a story to tell. |

Alex, I store quite a bit of stuff in cat bags which drop into the inspection ports. As ncmbm said though, this can not be considered dry storage. I also use a small Hobie parts bag which clips to the tramp lacing to carry a handheld VHF and other small stuff. This is wet storage also. A dry bag is your best bet for carrying larger items that you don't want to get wet but they do take up quite a bit of space on your tramp. Let us know specifically what part of rigging the boat you're having problems with and I'm sure somebody can help. Tom H18M |

Thanks guys!! I think I rigged the whole boat right, but I dont have a clue on the traveler rigging. There is an eyestrap in the middle of the rear crossbar, and the traveler has a couple of rollers, in one picture of the assembly manual I can see a line going there from the eyestrap... I browsed the web for a diagram, but can't find any. I guess the best is to go to the beach and take a look at a rigged cat, no? Good winds Alex |

Traveler rigging: 1. Take the bitter end of the main sheet and put it through the swivel jam cleat on the rear crossbar. 2. Next, thread the sheet through the traveler car rollers (sheaves). 3. Next thread the end through the hole on the bracket behind the swivel cam and tie a Figure Eight knot. 4. You're done. |

On my H18, I'll strap a small ice chest or dry bag to the forward hulls with a tight shock cord. It hold great and is out of the way. Put some hooks on your shock cord and they'll hook perfectly to the lip on the underside of the deck. |

OK!! I figured the meaning of the main sheet rigging. Ja Ja!! You know, i'm so new in this... They sell a flat bag for te tramp in Hobie that could be useful to have things at hand reach, like radio, GPS... but it won't hold bigger staf. The strapped bag and cooler is so simple and out of the way... great!! Thank you, be safe!!! Alex |
