Post subject: | Looking for an old Salt |
hello, My name is Matt. I'm restoring an old catamaran so I can get back on the water. First, I don't know what boat I bought... it is 18' 9'' Long. The Mast is about 27' tall. I can't locate any serial numbers on the transom or elsewhere. Instead of a trampoline there is a solid fiberglass cross piece. I have many questions but I'll start with a little jeopardy... Can anyone name that boat? Thanks, ...matt |

Picture? There are a few boats made as you describe. As I recall, The most famous one I know on the West Coast was partly responsible for the creation of the Hobie Cat. The P Cat (Pacific Cat) was 18 foot with a solid deck. So heavy it required lots of help dragging into the water. Hobie designed the Hobie 14 so he could sail more on his own without having to give rides to every guy who would have to help dragging the P Cat up and down the beach. ![]() ![]() |

Hello sir, The picture you posted looks exactly like the boat I purchased, except mine is red. What year and model is the boat you pictured? Thanks, ...matt |

I found this shot on Craigslist, so not sure how old it might be. I would assume that the P Cats have a serial number that might give a hint. Any boats built after about 1973 have a code that includes mfg and model year. Look on the transom? |

Hey Matt, Do you know of anyone that would be a good resource for info/Parts for a P-Cat. If not would you suggest I just rigg the boat as an 18ft hobie cat? Thanks, ...matt |

For information on the P-Cat, you need to contact Owen Minnie. He built these boats into the P-218 carbon fiber tornado rig rule breaker boats. I think you can find him through Elliott/Patterson sailmakers if they are still around. Jay Glaser at Danger/Ulman may also know how to contact him. |
