Post subject:  How do I remove rear trampoline strip with wings?

I have a 83 H18 that had SX wings added before I bought it. My tramp gave out and I have a new one ready to go on. It appears the rear wing brackets have covered the slot opening where the rear lacing strip is removed and installed.

I searched the forum and some mention of the rear lacing strip being permanent after wings are installed. My rear lacing strip is in poor condition and needs to be replaced with the new Tramp.

I do not want to drill out the rivets. I am thinking of taking a dremel tool to the bottom of the groove and opening it up enough to remove and install the new rear lacing strip. Has anyone else done this? Is there another solution?

Thanks,
Chet

Drill out the rivets, remove the old strip, install the new one, and re-rivet.
A good tramp should last you 20 years.....

+1

Just drill out the rivets, remove the plate, replace the tramp, and re-install. Piece of cake.

I ended up using the dremel tool to remove a small section on the bottom lip of the groove. It worked great and I pulled out the old and put in the new lacing strip and it works great.

The new lacing trip has a gap between the end and the gap so no pullout issues.

New tramp is nice, can't wait to get back on the water and give it a try.

after all these years have you had any negative effects of doing the dremel trick?

Adrio:

Leave out the Dremel tool.

I have the Harbour Freight Rivet gun and SS rivets.
Glad to see you back in the H18 world.

Agreed. Just drill out the rivets, remove the plate, do what you need to with the tramp, and rivet the plate back on. Much better than hacking away at the crossbar with a dremel IMO.
