My mast is bent between the base and the spreaders, time to replace before it fails. I would like to convert to a tiger stick rather than hunt for a sx stick. Jack Flash made this conversion I believe but cannot find anything here about it. Anyone done it and care to share? I believe modifying the 18 base to fit the tiger extrusion is the best path but hobie says it is not possible. Only other obvious option would be dolphin striker rod/mast bearing swap. How would you do it? Thanks for any input. Switching back to standard is not an option with the investment in sails for a 29' stick I have made. |

I really want to get away from the comptip. A solid mast would give me more tuning options and be stronger for spinnaker loads. Anyone know how to get in touch with jack flash? he hasn't posted here in quite some time |

If the H18 mast base fits inside the Tiger mast (i.e., the base is smaller than the inside of the mast), then I think it could be done. Bed the base in epoxy to give a tight fit between the base and the mast and then after the epoxy cures, rivet the base inside the mast. If the H18 base will not fit inside the Tiger mast, then I don't really see any way of making that work and your best bet would be to swap out the mast step/striker post for a H17/H20/HTiger step. It really shouldn't be too difficult of a conversion and is probably a better system anyway since the rivets on the H18 mast step have a tendency to loosen up over time. You would have to carefully enlarge at least one of the holes (the top I believe) in order to install the compression sleeve on the striker post, but that shouldn't be too big of a deal. Or maybe you could find a H20 mast which I believe is the same extrusion as the H18. In that case it would be a direct swap of the mast bases. sm |

If you're going to go through the hassle of putting on a new non-H18 mast, I'd use a wing mast. Though the Tiger mast is tough as nails. |
