Post subject:  Hobie Cat Line Guide - suggestions?

The guide says Mainsheet = 48', jib 44' for both 18SE and 18SX.
If you are trapping from the wings, surely the SX sheets should be longer?

The Tiger specs call for a spinnaker sheet of 51' (okay 15.5 m).
(I run a Tiger spin set up).
Again if trapping from the wings, surely the sheet should be longer?

Any recommendations as to line?
I am currently using (and loving) Robline, 10 mm on spin and main, and 6 mm on jib.
Trouble is, all current lines are blue with white, so when things get 'hot', we sometimes get 'confused'.
All suggestions are welcome.

We'll be in Nautical Ventures territory next Saturday... on our way to/from St Thomas....
some will go to Oakland Mall, and others will go to Josh and Hank at Dania....

My mainsheet is 58' or so (started at 60', then was spliced), but could be a bit shorter. Remember that when you're sheeted out most of the way, you're not likely to be trapping off the wings, and vise versa, so the wings don't really change the needed length very much. Go with NE Ropes Salsa- I've used it on other boats, and its awesome.

For the jib sheets, I'd go a little longer to make it easier to unfurl while sitting on the wing- I think I'm at 44' and feel like its useable but a little too short when I'm solo.

No suggestions on the spin sheet length since I've got a franken-boat. I use 6mm Swiftcord for my sheets, but its 2:1 sheeting on a bigger sail, so the loading is different and maybe you want one size up for ease of holding . Still, 10mm sounds too big/heavy to me. Since you're not Hobie class legal anyways, maybe you could taper into some spectra to reduce clew weight (and cost)?
