Post subject:  Why are there 2 pin holes in the jib furler?

I only ever use the one. Are you technically supposed to put a separate shackle in the lower hole for the luff tension line? I've just been running that line through the same shackle as the jib tack.

Looking at the hobie 18 assembly manual, it appears that the "proper" way to rig the furler is to use a Clevis pin and split ring through the top hole to set the mast rake/forestay (page 9, figure 18), and attach the tack of the jib using a shackle through the lower hole (page 16, figure 39). Interesting, I had never noticed that detail before. I had always used a shackle through the top hole to secure the forestay, and attached the tack of the jib with a second shackle through the loop of the first one. I may have to try doing it the "right" way sometime and see how it works out! :)
