I am thinking about using quick pins for the stays. Is this a good idea. Or is there nothing better than a clevis pin? I would really like to have one on the forward stay. It is very difficult to attach the forward stay while holding up the jib furler. -Thanks, Scott |

I don't use quick pins on critical connection like shrouds. A pin and ring or shackle would be my recommendation. Quick pins have a habit of sticking or bending which would bring th mast down if used for a shroud. If pinning forestay is tough you could loosen the sides before raising mast and then tension after mast is up. Have someone (you trust) hold a trap line tight while adjusting the side shrouds. Boom to blocks, main blocks to traveler, etc is where I use quick disconnects. Things that might suck if they come loose, but won't ruin your weekend. |

Agreed, no quick release for the shrouds or forestay. An easier way to set the forestay is to actually take the bridle wires and roller furler off every time you tear down. When setting up, attach the forestay to the furler on the hole you want it set at, set the shrouds at the top hole of their respective adjusters and then step the mast. Rather than trying to pin the forestay in the furler, you just have to pin each bridle wire to each hull -much easier. Then come back and tighten the shrouds. Also note that it's better to trailer the boat with the bridle wires and furler removed, as the bouncing and/or "drooping" of the bridles and furler can pinch or otherwise damage the wires. |
