I'm not sure, give everyone a few days to get over the holiday rush and I'm sure you will get an answer! My 1st guess is you would need to support the hulls, like cross bars on a trailer, the hulls are bolted on, a strap across the hulls may cause to much inward pressure......I really don't know, hope someone else had an idea. |

We put our new Tiger up on the ceiling and set it up so we could do this easily every winter. We have a loft above our garage bays designed for live loads so we have it pretty easy. We purchased two worm drive, self locking, cable winches, about $50 each. We mounted them on a 2 X 12 board about a foot long with an elongated hole cut out so the cable could move back and forth on the barrel. We cut two holes in the loft floor above each of the cross beams and attached the cables to loops around the cross beams. The loops were tied tight to reduce the head space above the boat. Then just winched it up! Well, it will be that easy next year, there was a bit of a learning curve with the first time. We didnt initial have the winches bolted down on the 2 X 12and once the boat started to come up the winch that takes most of the load wanted to tip forward it really needs the 'foot' (2 X 12) out front to react the load. I have to admit i was really freaking as i was winching the boat. i thought the winch was just going to tip forward and flip around unwinding all the cable and drop my spanking new boat! Once up to the ceiling we levelled it out with the rear winch and then put the 4 trailer cradles under it and tied them up to the loft floor joists (drilled holes through the joists to pass a line though) for backup protection. Wide strapping like hiking strap would also work for the round hulls of the H18 or Tiger. With a Tiger - which would most likely also apply to an 18, you really only need one winch, the front one, because it does all the work. The rear cross beam could be pulled up with a rope. Yes Hobie Nick did sell his boat as a friend of mine was interested in getting into a 18 but it didn't pan out. I have not spoke to Hobie Nick via email in sometime. Last I did he is still involved in sailing in his area but on a larger monohull boat of some type. If you can't find the plans, let me know and I'll make an attempt to email him. t-bone |

skipshot, Any luck in finding the info? Sorry to rush but Sept may seem like a long way from winter when you live in Oakland (I grew up in Stockton) but here in MN we could have snow in 6 weeks.... so am anxious to get started. Thanks, Adam |
