OK, been sailing a Hobie 18 for 25 years and thought I had all the info on the H18 there is.

I know the SX mast is about 18 inches longer overall, and that all the SX masts are comptip masts.

Is the aluminum part of a SX longer, or is the Comptip longer, or both? Now that I think about it, do they even use the same aluminum extrusion?

Its the same aluminum extrusion, The Comptip is the same, the aluminum solid part is longer and the Diamond wires are also longer. Its possible to convert a solid H18 mast, cut it at the longer SX dimension, add the comptip and relocate the spreaders and use the longer diamond wires. Or i have and extra for $500

For my ride I swapped out the standard SX main and started using a tiger. Easy conversion to the top of the Tiger sail to use on the H18 top hook

Thanks, as I suspected since I could only find one part number for a comptip, but wanted to be sure.

I have a standard SE mast, but it's getting to be in poor condition, several repaired pinches in the aluminum track and the plastic track on the comptip is cracked.

It hasn't really caused problems but doesn't seem like a good idea to keep using it like that.

What sail are you planning on running? Every time I think about a new sail the realization that if I sold my boat + the cost of a new sail, I could just about buy a tiger anyway.

I'll probably keep the red sails in my signature for another season, they are in good shape, really well made and this is just going into the fourth season.

The red die injection sails were made by Elliott/Pattison Sailmakers.

You have a great group of Hobie 18's there in Jax so keep it up! New sails are awesome but having a group like that is rare.
