Post subject: | What's my line? |
I've seen images of Hobie 18's with what appears to be a 1/4" (or larger) line that runs from somewhere near the base of the mast. over the lower diamond wire connection and outboard towards the forward cross bar. I've check every assembly document and preformance tuning guide and have never seen any reference to this line. Can anyone explain what this line is, how it is rigged and what it is used for? Hopefully, this is a picuture from the Hobi18 Preformance Tuning Manual. ![]() Thanks. |

It's not line - it's bungee cord. It keeps the jib sheets from fouling in the mast step. |

John: I use it on my Hobie 17. Eyelet is 3' up the mast. The blue lines are the reacher sheets. Blocks are 18" off the rear crossbar. You may have to run sheets outside of shrouds. Depends on boat. You can see it in this photo: http://www.thebeachcats.com/modules.php ... _photo.php Just keep it loose enough so it doesn't hinder mast rotation. Doug Snell Hobie 17 "Stress Free" #007 |

5 feet of 1/4" diameter shock cord. It's listed as a Preventer and does exactly what MBounds says it does. Brian C |

the shock cord doesn't need to extend down from the diamonds to the dolphin striker in the center. Mine runs from hull lip thru diamonds and to hull lip on other side. Keeps the sheets from sticking under the mast base. Don't need it any longer with the self-tacker. |
