Post subject:  Comp tip - much surface damage?

Hi all,
My comp tip looks like it's had a hard life. I'm hoping the damage is just in the surface layer.
I think my best bet will be to grind it down to the glass in all the damaged areas to see what is happening.
That looks like grinding away a good bit of the coating!
If the core is sound, I can put a new coating of either vinylester or epoxy on it.

Any thoughts on what's going on here, and what I should expect? Just replace it?

Sorry - I can't figure out how to get the pictures to embed...

Another thing I could try would be to just clean the comp tip really well, and then fill the cracks and chips with very low viscosity epoxy, and hope that is adequate.

I could connect my shop vac to the mast tip and put it under a bit of vacuum to help draw the epoxy in anywhere the crack is more than superficial.

Certainly cheaper and easier....

I’d just sand it back by hand and paint it in 2pak clear paint, same paint as on your car. That’s assuming the cracks we can see are not structural amd only cosmetic.
