| Post subject: | HELP black stuff on new tramp |
HELP i completely rebuilt a Hobie 18 with SX wings new tramp covered the boat for a time and the new tramp has black stuff on it. how can i remove this stuff. |

Can you be more specific about what the black “stuff” is? Mold? Leaf stains? Generally with those kinds of stains, some mild detergent and scrubbing with a stiff bristle brush will remove it. sm |

To expand on "SRM's" advice. If your "Black stuff" is natural and not the result of a spill from a hot tar roofing job, maybe heat up a bucket full of really soapy water. Take the tramp off the boat to be able to scrub it against a hard surface, such as a clean garage floor, driveway, crew's forehead, whatever. Warm, or Hot water adds quite a bit to the cleaning effect. Scrub with a stiff bristle brush, (plastic or natural bristles, no metal), then rinse well with a garden water hose or pressure washer. Start out "low" on the "Aggressive cleaner" chart, until you find something that will cut it. Make sure to clean out the rails that the tramp slides into. Maybe take the strip from the rear cross-member to your local hardware store to ask them what they stock as far as effective cleaners. Stick with water soluable if at all possible. Be careful with any "Treatments" they may suggest. A product like a plastic or rubber "preservative", Armor-All, for instance will basically "Teflon Coat" your tramp and you will be saying "Good Bye" to anything or anyone on your tramp that is not well lashed down. IE: VERY SLIPPERY. A friend learned this with his motorcycle seat. |
