Several times in the last few years my wire halyard on my jib has become somewhat twisted at the top just above the headsail cringle. The swivels at both ends of the forestay are working fine . Could this be the result of furling the jib too tight which was my first thought,but , after slowing down and easing the sail in I seem to get the same result. Am I missing something here? Any suggestions would be appreciated...Deejay

The swivel may spin freely by hand, but bind under load. You need to make sure that the mainsheet is fully eased when furling the jib. If your shrouds are super tight, this can also cause the swivel to bind. Also, it’s best to furl when on a downwind heading if possible as this fully unloads the forestay and also the jib will flog less which gives a cleaner furl. Set the jib sheet with a little tension on it so the sail is not flapping wildly, but loose enough that you can begin furling a third or half of the sail. Then release the jib sheet fully and finish furling the rest of the way. sm
