I bought a wrecked 18 in miami fl the right hull ,arms, and tramp are all good as are the boom and sails but the left /port hull is trashed as are both rudder mounts both rudders and center boards are gone the owner before me crashed in to a steel reef lighthouse [carysfort] and holed the hull then called for help CG sent a private tow boat with ONLY one guy on board who tryed to tow the boat flipped and semi sunk back acrossed the bay and tow did most of the dammage to the poor boat inc lost rudders and broken mounts, the center boards lost and broke the hull in 1/2 at the front arm mount allso broke the mast just above the jib mount and then charged 900 bucks for the ''service!!!'' anyone know of a good left/port hull or mast the rudders and center boards I can make out of plywood and maybe even repair the mast out of a broken one but to redo a hull is beyond my skill or energy levels I have no plans to race the boat just fix it as a daysailor |

Don't try to make rudders and centerboards out of plywood. Unless you are very skilled and can put a proper foil shape on them, they will be very poor (I know someone who tried to do this, they did not work). Plus you run the risk of wooden centerboards swelling and getting stuck in the trunk. A much better bet would be to check e-bay and call dealers for parts. You should be able to find used rudders etc for very cheap that will work 10 times better than anything you make. Just a suggestion. sm |

E bayed up a pair of hulls so I will have a extra starboard hull and two arms if any one is in need of them here only bad bit is the hulls are in ohio a long drive from miami but could drop on off on the way inbetween in a week or three if not too far off the track of 95 to 77 to ne ohio so the need list is down to rudders , CB's and a comptip or top bit of a broken mast as a buddy can weld al alloy |

The Hobie dealer in Myrtle Beach has a port hull. I have a solid mast for sale. Comptip is the best fix for the mast, available from any dealer. Don't weld the mast, it will break. |

I try very hard NEVER to DEAL WITH DEALERS example list price on a hull is over 4k for an 18 welding alloy is an art most have no clue hints heat it up befor welding and temper or aneal after depending on use so no if the welder is not an alloy pro welding maynot be a good idea but it can be done by those who know how but much more then throwing an arc is needed |
