I have a 1979 H18 that I just acquired. It came with a braided line that isn't long enough and doesn't fit over the pulley and into the mast. It also came with a white rope that is to thick to fit through the pulley. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

Welcome Cornelius! To me, the picture you posted looks like it might be one of your side shrouds or possibly forestay and not intended to be the halyard? |

The picture shows a wire cable. The Hobie 18 main halyard uses a 3/16” diameter line, 58-feet long. There should be a stainless steel ring, about 2” in diameter, attached to the line. The line passes through the sheave at the top of the mast, down inside the mast track, and exits out the sheave at the base of the mast. When hoisting the mainsail, connect the head plate on the sail to the stainless ring on the halyard using a twist shackle. Once hoisted all the way up, the metal ring engages the hook at the top of the mast shown in your picture. sm |
