Movement between right hull and right rear crossbar on 82 H1

Post subject:  Movement between right hull and right rear crossbar on 82 H1
On my last sail yesterday I noticed movement on the right, rear hull and right rear crossbar. I don't see any bolts to tighten. Are they inside the crossbar and do I have to drill out rivets to gain access.

I would appreciate guidance on how to repair the boat. I've been sailing this boat about 15 years.

Another issue. I've had 3 of the pins that hold the sidestays to the hulls shear over the years. Is it me? Is it a weak spot on the H18? Is it a part that should be replaced as preventative maintenance?

The crossbars are held to the hull with two bolts (an inboard and an outboard) at each connection location. Outboard bolts are clearly visible on the ends of the hulls. The inboard bolts come up from the bottom. Look under the hull lip on the inboard side of the hull where the crossbar passes over. You should see a backing plate and an allen head bolt that threads up into the crossbar.

For the shroud pin, are you talking about the threaded pin that passes through the hull with a nut on the bottom? If so, yes those are known to break and should be replaced if original or old. The newer version are stronger.

If you’re talking about the clevis pins used to adjust the shroud length shearing off, then no that would not be normal.

Thanks for answers. Upon closer inspection, the interior bracket and bolt were gone. Hopefully the part inside crossbar is still there. Should get parts on Friday.

This information is completely wrong. You do not need to drill out any rivets or remove the end caps to access the crossbar bolts on the H18.

As mentioned in my previous post, the outboard bolts are easily accessible at the end of the crossbar. The inboard bolts are accessed from under the hull lip. Nothing on the crossbar assembly needs to be removed to do this.

Also a note to the original poster - you will probably find it to be much easier to install the inboard bolts if you un-lace the trampoline from the rear crossbar and remove, or at least loosen, the outboard bolts. The rear crossbar needs to be able to move around in order to align the bolts with the threaded inserts. It’s usually easiest to install the inboard bolts first and then do the outboard bolts. I suggest using a ratchet wrench with a long hex bit socket (5/16” hex) to install the inboard bolts. This is much faster and easier than using an allen wrench. Be very careful not to cross-thread the bolts when starting them in the threaded inserts.
