Post subject: | Help with ID & serial # |
I just picked up what I believe is an 18' Hobie. I found a serial # on the right transom that reads: 9XLA13710(or G)3(or 9)79. It runs vertically from top to bottom. The only other id I can find on the boat are a couple of stickers from the early 80's saying it was part of a Hobie fleet in Sandy Hook NJ. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Al |

Yeah, I've got those same kinda numbers on my right hand transom on my H18. I think that they are factory placed serial numbers. They may not be in that area on every hobie 18 because I think they changed actual manufacturers in the early 80's. just my 2cents which is down to one now ![]() |

All serial numbers begin with CCM. There's an article in the FAQ that explains the format. |

Almost all, if not all, HID #'s ( Hull ID Numbers) on Hobie 18's start out with the letters CCMC which I believe stood for Coast Catamaran Manufacturing Company. Followed by a series of numbers and letters that can be decoded to give you some additional information about the boat. In some cases there were some additional letters to denote special circumstances regarding that particular boat. possibly a factory second. There are others on this forum that can guide you to the exact and accurate information you may be looking for. Based on what I personally know, it sounds like the boat you have bought is either NOT a Hobie product, or has been re-serial numbered by an entinty other than Hobie Cat. But, I could be wrong, it HAS happened before. Stephen Hobie 18 |
