| Post subject: | flipping over an H18 |
I have to do some bottom work on my H18 and will want to flip the boat upside down. First, how heavy is it, or more accuratly how many people should I collect to do this flip? Second, when it is upside down where and how should I support it? I don't want to cause any delamination from this action. Thanks, Adrio |

If on soft ground you don't need to pad in any way. If on hard ground a few life vests can soften the load. The hulls / platform are probably 300 lbs by itself. Takes two to three people to roll over. |

I had to do something similar recently. First get everything off the top; rudders, tillers, even the cleat for the traveler (on mine two were wood type screws and one was a bolt). The boat is supposed to weigh about 400 lbs but the mast is probably 50 of that. Your mileage may vary. We flipped it with 4 people and just laid it on it's back on the lawn for the short time we needed to work on it. |

Before you roll it, be sure to have 4 carpeted (padded) sawhorses ready to use. If you take another look at the photos I sent you awhile back you'll see where to place them...basically near the cross bars, but not directly beneath them. If the ground you'll be working on is uneven you may need some small pieces of wood to place under the legs of the sawhorse to balance the boat over the 4 supports. Also, you may want to remove the rear traveler, or slide it to the side of the boat not being lifted up and over. |

Just flipped mine in the yard tonight by myself. Just like in the water, lifted it up on one hull and moved to the front and walked around it and brought it down. Its upside down now killing my grass til morning. I am working on some 84 hulls that I just got. They arent pretty but they are going to be when i get done with them, taking it out this weekend for first time. I fully expect the jib to just blow up these sails are whipped. Wish me luck. |
