Compass rudder not deploying

Post subject:  Compass rudder not deploying
I just purchased a compass and on my first trip out the rudder failed to deploy.
It seems that the spring may not be strong enough.
the retract cable was fully disengaged and even moving the rudder back and forth did not cause the rudder to drop. I had to get out of the kayak and and manually pull the rudder down. Once it was past about 25-35% down it deployed under its own power.

Has anyone encountered this, and or is there an adjustment to make this a bit stronger?

Internal hull foam shifts and causes friction. People have had success with just repositioning the floatation foam out of the path of the string.

I have to do this every outing. Before I launch I move the blocks so the cable is free.

You can use Gorilla tape to secure the blocks to the hull from moving.....it really works.

Do you have Hobie side pockets installed?
The mount screws will catch rudder deploy ropes on right side..

I had to loosen the silver screw that goes thru and secures the rudder. Took my time and loosened it just enough to allow the rudder to deploy. Works like a champ now.
