Shame on you Hobie !!!!! Offering up a rectangular hatch as a option for the compass only to find the rectangular hatch bucket does not fit and allow you to close the hatch. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME Guess for my next kayak I will shop around other manufacturers. |

Weird, fits fine in mine. How doesn’t it fit? Too tall? Something in the way? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have seen a few rare instances of folks saying their rectangular bucket doesn't fit, but those are rare. Mine fits. I think the placement for the foam pads are key to the hatch closing with the bucket installed. I ended up taking 2 pairs (strapped together) of the foam padding and adjusting the foam pads so they were over that ridge between the center section of the hull and the outer sections. That also put the foam pads closer to the center and further away from the rudder cable. Mine doesn't close completely flush to the hatch flange. I have to push the hatch down just a little to rotate the handle so the hatch will lock shut. Works for me! Try adjusting your foam padding a little to help it push the deck up just a little bit. That might be enough to do the trick. ![]() |

Shame? That is harsh right? The hatch is the option... and it works. The bucket is an accessory for the hatch that may not fit some models or installation locations due to hull depth. According to the two posts above... it does fit their compass. It is possible that the hull has been squashed which could reduce the space between deck and hull. This could be from aggressive tie downs during transport or storage I suppose. |

To Steve - I will try to adjust the form inserts. To All - the Compass sits upright on a trailer. It is supported by 2 four inch PVC pipes running the length of the 2 catamaran indentations. Tied down I don’t see how the hull would crush. It seems that the indentations would widen out as the top of the PVC pipes do not rest at the top of catamaran indentations. To Matt - No, both responses did not say the the bucket fit perfectly. So I will stay with “Shame on you Hobie” |

Do the Plano box holders fit in the square hatches? I remember in my PA 17 the bucket would only fit in the middle hatch and I had the Plano fishing box holders in the other two. That might be an option. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I used a heat gun to manipulate the shape some. This works quite well. ![]() |

I keep my cell and packs of spare hooks in the lid web pocket. And the bucket has about 8-10 soft plastic packages standing straight up. I will guess that slight resistance is due to the contents and not the bucket. ![]() |

Quote: To Matt - No, both responses did not say the the bucket fit perfectly. So I will stay with “Shame on you Hobie” Mine fits perfectly and does not I say DOES NOT affect the hatch door closing. I may have at the start arrange the foam blocks but that was the first time. But to say Shame on Hobie for an option you chose is a bit over the top. Oh yeah, mine fits perfectly |

We do believe that the PVC bunks and strapping down can crush the hull. You push up on the bottom right along the scupper lines and pull down on the rails... that can squash the hull. Use caution on strap tensions. All you need to do is keep the hull from bouncing up and down. You can lock movement fore and aft with a line through the well or handles. |
