Has anyone modified the Vantage footings so they can be moved off the posts and set back of the posts (on the main hull) so you can get a lower seat position? I've heard that there is some odd copyright issue were Hobie can't adjust the post position so that you can move the seat off the posts. At a sportsmans show Hobie reps said you could grind the footing corners slightly so it would fit. Has anyone done this. The Compass seems stable but I fish the salt, a lot, in northern waters and a lower center of gravity would make me feel safer.

Correct, but the issue is a Patent for a dual position seat. We had to choose a mid height.

But if you just moved the posts 1/4 - 1/3 inch forward you could sit the seat lower - on the hull. That and a couple other minor changes would make the Compass a much more sellable boat.

It's nice to come to a thread and read more information about Hobie seats. Thankfully I was able to sell my Vantage seat for the Revo 13. Others like it but just like the OP in this thread we want an alternative choice like it use to be. I bought a wheelchair pad online waterproof and modified it. Now my 2018 R-13 is just as stable as my 2014.

I was looking at the Compass again. I sure like the concept and want to buy one. I imagine Hobie would sell a lot more if they could just fix about three flaws that are really annoying.
Like I mentioned, move the seat post forward 1/4th inch so you can sit the seat on the hull. Moving the seat retainer strap position slightly would also help. Then of course there is the paddle retaining strap post. How hard is it to move that a couple inches forward - to the outside ???
