2018 Compass ... looking for basic FF functions (show me fish and structure, depth, temp) ... ease of installation (Lowrance?). Thanks |

I use a Lowrance 7ti and love it. Touchscreen, can operate my Power-Pole Micro from the touchscreen, tide chart display, etc. ![]() |

I would recommend going with a side scan unit. Sure a down scan will show you fish, structure, bait, etc but you don't know where that fish, structure, bait is. It could be to your right or left 20 feet and you would never know it. Having a side scan unit takes a lot of guessing out of fishing. As far as brands I'm not a fan of Lowrance at all mainly due to their customer service. My next unit will likely be a Hummingbird. Oh if you do go side scan definitely consider getting a transducer guard for it. The huge transducer is the down side to have a side scan on a Compass. One thing to keep in mind is the size and location of the unit. If you plan on fishing in shallow waters where you'll need to paddle at times a large FF or a FF installed too close to the seat will all but prevent you from being able to paddle your Compass. |
