I've had my Compass one week today. Moved it from my truck to garage, where I've been fitting it out. Picked it up by the stern handle this morning and it popped right off in my hand. Fortunately I've got it resting on some foam rubber so it didn't bang the hull. When I inspected the bow handle, I saw that the rope is worn through about halfway, same place as the stern handle. Is Hobie cutting corners during the pandemic? Has this happened to anyone else? |

That is very odd. Worn line would not be from manufacture. Did you have a long trip home car topping? Never heard of this though. Did you use the handles for transport tie-down? The Compass handle is the same as all models, but Passport I think. A molded handle. The line enters the handle and the material is soft there. In any case, ask your dealer to get a couple of new ones via the warranty process. 76050001 HANDLE KAYAK (MOLDED) ![]() |

Nope and nope. Only used them to pick the kayak up and carry, and only did that about five times. The break is flush with the rubber handle on both. |

The spot where the line enters the handle is where it broke on the first, and where it's frayed through on the second. That spot is hard plastic, not soft at all. New (cheaper) supplier? I took pictures and would post them, but the site isn't letting me. |

Thanks, Matt. I will try to go direct. If no luck I will try my dealer. |
