I would like to convert my old-style jib sheeting system to newer style, with outhaul adjustment lines, and blocks that don't flex downward, etc, as shown in many diagrams on the forum. A guy at my club is selling his old boat for parts. (He is also willing to sell the whole thing for 300). I can buy each individual part from him, and borrow a rivet gun, and install on my boat. But I could also buy the entire cross beam from him too, and swap it for mine. Assuming the cost is about the same, which would you do? |

You can convert it for less than $300. A couple of cheek blocks, $25. The low profile swivel cleats are $130 You need probably another $50 in lines. New jib sheat, traveler sheats, and some shockcord so the car centers on its own. and a handfull of rivets. Plus it'll be new stuff. |

thanks for the reply. I went ahead and bought the entire boat for $250. I'm going to scavenge the jib outhaul system, which is used but not too old. My friend just got an old hobie too and he's going to split the cost with me. He's getting the tramp, mast float, and maybe the boom. Well also use various pins, shackles, trap lines, etc, so it seemed like a good deal. That said, I'm still wondering if I should take the entire crossbar or move it over piece by piece. |

I'd swap the entire crossbar and corner castings. It doesn't take long to re-lace the tramp and the corner castings aren't riveted to the side bars |

Why don't you just put your old hulls on the newer style tramp frame and cross bars? It would be easier than taking off the corner castings and replacing the front crossbar. John G. |

I think they're the same style. My current is a '77, the new one an '82. It only has the updated jib outhaul system because the previous owner did the mod a couple of years ago. |
