I was just wondering how much old hobie cats went for back in the day? Anyone know?

IIRC, back in the early 80's a new 16 sold for around $3,500.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

ETA: This was in Ft. Walton Beach, FL

3 days before Christmas in 1979 I paid $2700 for mine, with a trailer. My hulls had a "blem" (blemish), according to the factory....I never found it. The hulls were grey, with the sails Emerald blue. The price I paid should be less than most others around the country because I live barely 5 minutes from the Hobie factory, and shipping costs were pennies at best.

The first Hobie 16 my family owned was bought new for $1,237.

That was 1973. FYI, that's almost $6,300 in today's money.

My 1984, bought in September of 1983 cost $3,200 (also = $6,300 today)

$6300 today = $6000. No, wait, $5800. Hold on, $5200. Oops, back up to $5500. :?

If my memory serves me, we paid around $3300 for a brand new Hobie in 1980.

July 1981, H16 SE (black anodize), w/trailer, two life vests, double trap (single was standard), and spare tire was $3,800 (all I could talk Marshall Brown of Mid-West yacht out of), got all the accessories beyond that (hot stick, harnesses, quick pins, gloves, etc., etc.) at 15% off. I remember specifically the total including tax was $4,242.05...best money I ever spent :D

By the way, at that time, on average they sold one new 16 every four days

I was 23...single...driving one of theseImageOK... it wasn't a SS (I paid $425 for it)
and had never purchased a new car or boat, let alone sailed a boat.
I think the loan rate was like 12% back then? Jimmy Carter days

Fast forward to present.

John, can you get more hobie gear in the trunk of your Buick?
