Post subject:  Installing Comp Tip Sail Track

Anyone ever installed a new plastic sail track on a Hobie 16 comp tip. I bought a new one but am not totally sure how to install it.
Thanks

It's not all that hard to do...just be slow and gentle. If you go to the link above for "support" (in the blue band @ the top of the page) and then click again on sailboats support, you will find the repair section. Replacing the luff track is towards the bottom of the listed repairs. Follow the factory suggestions and you should be able to do a quality fix yourself. The only thing I would add to it is to use a soap & water mixture to lube things up a bit so they slide better. Once installed get your garden hose out and rinse all the soap away. Good luck, let us know how it turns out. Rick

Did those knuckleheads I work with forget to send the instructions again? Sheesh... They're supposed to be taped to the track when we ship one out. Sorry about that.

Anyway... It's online as Rick said. Here's the direct link: http://www.hobiecat.com/support/pdfs/38584001.pdf

I usually start at the tang end and work towards the head of the mast. Before I install the new track, I open up the groove of the track at the tang end a little bit with a file and some sandpaper. Don't want the sail to catch while raising it.

Slow and easy is the key.
