Post subject:  Measuring Mast Rake

After reading Bob Merrick's article regarding H16 setup I finally decided to measure my mast rake. I raised the jib, attached the tack in the center of the adjuster. My shrouds were in the bottom hole and pretty tight. I then raised the main, took the halyard to the left front bridle attach bolt and made a small mark. I then walked to the back of the left hull and pulled the halyard down to the bottom corner of the transom and made another small mark on the halyard. When I measured the distance between the marks I had 23 inches! I then moved the shrouds up 1 hole and tried again with a 21 inch rake measurement. Any less rake and I can't get 2 blocked. Am I doing this measurement correct?

Yea it sounds like you are doing it correctly. 21 inches sounds like a lot to be just barely getting two blocked unless we are talking about light air.

I'm not sure where it is posted. I put it together a few years ago so I probably need to update it.
