Linked for size. This is an ongoing process of restoration. The camera doesnt help the paint job.

I epoxied the frame. New rivets all around. Super tight tramp, did the mainsheet trick. She is extremely stiff now. All rudder slop has been fixed. Upgraded the jib system. All the riggin is brand new. All the lines are new as well, with the exception of the mainsheet.

All I need to say im complete is, new 6:1 mainsheet, two harnesses, "Still using the original harnesses, OUCH!" Rake the mast. Tune the rudders. Then maybe a SPIN!! :twisted: Cant wait!

BTW ISPIRIX is the boat that inspired me to this.
Not quite like her, but still I love the way she looks.

ps: I am extremely happy with the "ALMOST" finished product, and cant wait to sail her once again. :D

I love the paint job and graphics! Did you use West System or Interlux on the paint?

As a former 16'r the only thing I would have done additionally is double grommetted the center of the tramp. That gives you tighter tramp with less effort and, more importantly, less space to lose sheets through when the lake/ocean is trying to come aboard and steal everthing not tied down and you are trying to go a zillion miles an hour- if you know what I mean :wink: Otherwise, the red lacing on black is VERY cool 8)

Now you HAVE to custom-up the trailer too...

Wow, super job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am just getting started. Took the first hull home yesterday in the Suburban. Will have the second home tonite. The bottom of mine has to be repaired as it leaks and the glass is showing through. (I guess this is from pulling it up on to the dock without rollers.) Then the old stripes come off and the project really begins.

Did you take any pictures while epoxying the pylons? Did you paint or re-anodize the crossmembers and side bars? Are you goung to paint the mast? What did you use to paint the hulls?

So many questions, sorry. Just want to make sure I do mine right!

No I did not take any pictures while epoxing the tramp. You really dont have enough hands to do so. You have constatly mix the epoxy with the filler and try to be quick. I had the slow hardener and with the FL heat it set in like 10 mins. I had to mix two batches, one for the front and one for the rear.

The cross members are painted. The side bars are not. They have the anti-skid rubber, so there wasnt any need for paint. Front and rear cross bars are painted with Polyurethane.

I am not going to paint the mast. Because I really want to get this baby on the water. I can only work on her for an hour everyday. (She was painted at my job) Took me three weeks to finish. I was starting to have withdrawal symptoms and couldnt take it anymore.

For the hulls I used PPG polyurethane paint. Quite spendy but good stuff.

I would have to weigh two pints of Polyurethane paint. IMO its not a factor that will detriment her performance.

Its NOT like a Hobie 16 is a class "A" cat, that every pound saved will help. Unless you save over 20 punds, I trully think there wont be any advantages. :D

Excellent job, I love the flames. I have been contemplating putting asian dragons on mine. Mabie flames though, you can never go wrong with flames

The hardest part of painting the crossbeams, although with any painting job is the preperation work. It takes time and effort to take everything apart, but if you take time and patience it will turn out beautifull.

Patience is a virture!

Still not sure if you spray or brush painted the cross beams?I asked the paint shop about polyurethene paint and told me it would cost $200 for the hardener and paint for the cross beams. Does this sound right?

Sorry for missing the specifics. I did SPRAY the crossbeams. The paint is extremely hard and has stood up pretty good.

I payed somewhat more than $200. I would say closer to the $400 range.

No $400 for ALL THE PAINT. Not just the crossbeams.

The entire paint supplies cost me closer to $400.00 dollars. I did the painting.

Remember total cost of painting supplies were closer to $400.00

dunno if that can be any clearer really. :D
