What is the best stuff to fill the old holes with on the new carbon kevler EPO 2 rudders |

I assume you are looking to tuck them under the boat more? Did you remove the rubber pad on the lower casting yet? |

I'd use the West System "Handy" epoxy repair pack. It's a one batch package, but will be enough to fill four holes. Or you can get the six pack, in case you want to redo or do other repairs. Only one way to do it, I'm sure there's at least twelve other opinions. Mike, please email me the dimensions on drilling new holes. |

Mike, I use marinetex but the west system would probably match better. Some high density filler might be a good add. It will make it easier to work and stronger as a bearing surface. Just stick with epoxy sonce that is what the rudders are made from. cheers Bill |

Thanks for the help.I am just going to drill them using another rudder as the template.I still have acess to my old rudders(actually Rich Mcveigh's) old rudders that had a nice helm to them. |

Mike, If you want to get it exactly right and have access to a drill press.... Get a piece of pplywood or particle board 3/4" thick x about 16" x 36". Lay the rudder on it and position some small wood blocks along the leading edge and the top edge and secure with drywall screws. The top edge guides should be small(1") so that the throat of the drill press does not present a restriction. use a c-clamp to secure the jig to the drill press table so that the 5/16" drill bit just passes down through the center of the hole in the rudder that you are copying. Swap to the new rudder with the filled holes and drill. Repeat for the other hole. This should keep the error to less than 1/16". I have tried to just lay rudders on top of each other to transfer holes and it fails miserably. cheers Bill |
