Any specifics behind the new boats having Ronstan cleats?
I've had broken springs in Harken cleats, with frozen screws as well, my experiences have been frustrating.

I have three swivel cam cleats on my '83 H16 (two on the jib sheet and one on the main sheet traveler). Recently an internal spring on one of the jib cleats broke. I could not find a replacement spring and had to buy a whole used cam cleat for $25. Those have a left and a right spring. I used the left one to replace the broken one, but a couple of days ago another one broke, this time on the main sheet traveler, and again a left. Does anyone know where I can get the replacement springs only - they should cost pennies?[/img] |

Depends on the make of the cleats. Could be SeaWay, Harken, Ronstan or several other makes. Photo of the cleats and or spring could help identify it. |

Matt, It is the Harken Cammatic Cleat shown in the Hobie catalog under 50009 with aluminum jaws H150. Thanks. |

The spring is Harken part number HSB56. They're a $1.95/ea. There's not a right and left. Just flip the spring. |

http://www.flickr.com/photos/31269219@N02/2928418338/ No, you misidentified the cleat. That's from an old Seaway or Ronstan, probably Seaway. Do youself a big favor and replace the whole cleat with the Harken version. It works much better. |

The cleat is SeaWay. We don't have replacement springs here... maybe at a dealer? We went to Ronstan when the jib cars started coming from Australia. Hobie Australasia designed the plate and car, so they supply us. |

Those springs for the Seaway cleats are getting hard to get! Some dealers have old stock, but go on and replace with the Harkens or Ronstan- you'll be glad you did! |

I have the same issue on my '84 H16. To replace the whole cleat what do I need to order? Can I replace just the cams on the same swivel? Is the old swivel riveted to the crossbar? Thanks for your help. Kent |

The swivel is screwed into a base plate with 3 screws. However, the seaway cams have two posts that come up off of the swivel plate. The Ronstan cams won't just fit on those. I'm in the same situation. I've got a set of Ronstan cams, but they won't fit on the old seaway plate. I see that you can buy a new plate that comes with the cams. Is it possible to buy just the swivel plate without the cams? |
