Post subject: | Raising Mast |
It is not difficult to raise the mast. I do it alone most of the time using a tripod to support one end and by extending the jib halyard about 6' with a length of line tied to the bridle. Get the mast in place with the pin in the hinge, the other end on the tripod, the line tied to the halyard and bridle and the shrouds lying clear of the end castings on the tramp. Raise the mast while up on the tramp and lean into it after it is up. Reach down and uncleat the jib halyard, pull it tight to support the mast and recleat it. You can then get down and pin the forestay. The hinge will need to toggle down as you raise the mast. I do that by a little extra "bump" to the mast as I raise it or someone can push on the front of the mast at the base as you raise it. Make sure the pin is in the hole on the hinge for the 16, not the 14. It is marked. Be careful that the shrouds don't get caught on anything as you raise the mast. With two people you don't need the tripod or halyard extension but I find it easier that way. |
