Post subject: | Aging an H16 w/No hull ID Visible |
I just picked up an old hobie 16 (primarilay for the hulls) and I'm trying to determine the age of the boat. One clue might be my front crossbar. I noticed that there are numbers (1 thru 6) stamped incrementally on either side to mark positions for the jib cars. It's not the integrated crossbar; the ss tracks are reiveted on top. The mast is a non comptip, non anodized and has (what I believe) is a vang attachment point. The hulls are in good shape (other than 2 small punctures, one on either side of the starboard hull) and just need to be sanded, primed and painted. My plan is to restore the hulls as mentioned and transfer to the other boat. Should I move the crossbars to the old boat as well? Any other ideas for aging the boat? |

Markings on the crossbar are not Hobie standard, so no idea there. How about a 4 digit number stamped on the outboard side of the forward pylon posts? |

I checked the pylons as you said and found a three digit number stamped there (385) and I checked the old boat and found a four digit number (2003). Also, the crossbar is incrementally marked 0 thru 8 on both sides (R&L) with the 0 closest to the mast step and the 8 at the outermost point of the ss track. Now what? |
