Post subject:  Old Tramp

My old trampoline (original from 77) is showing its age. It has been stored inside for most of its life, so the fabric body is still sound. The old age shows in the rivets. I ordered a grommet kit and plan to double up the grommets across the whole tramp. This will cut the grommet spread from 5 1/2 down to 2 3/4 inches...Next comes the lacing. I'm sure the added displacement of loaded grommet points will prolong the life of the tramp. What should I use as lacing material-to stretch or not to stretch?? That is the question. Will the extra grommets be enough or should I use shock cord as well? It was originally laced with non-stretch cord. Thanks community!

I prefer low stretch line over shock cord. Shock cord can get kinda bouncy. The sidebars flex and bow inward under proper tramp tension, so there is always an outward pull on a solid line lace tramp to keep it tight.

Shock cord is a bit easier to lace tight. If you do go that route... use 3/8" and a high quality UV jacket. Otherwise, you will be replacing every year.

What type (thickness, ect..) of low stretch rope do you use to lace the tramp? Also, how much will I need?

1/4" diameter with a soft slippery shell. You want the line to pass through the grommets easily and bend around the turns. Stiffer line will take time to "set" and will become looser because of that.

The type, length specs and diameter is shown in the catalog in the parts diagram pages for your boat model.
